Course descriptions are by original Trotters.
- 3.7k Run
- 4.8k Run
- 6.5k Run [elevation gain: 123m] The base course is 6.5 kms and starts from Turramurra Station at 6:30 am every Saturday morning. This run goes up Rohini Street, down the Pacific Highway and left into Bobbin Head Road.
- 8.6k Run [elevation gain: 158m] The second course follows the 6.5km Route, but turns right at Eastern Road and goes down to Junction Road, where we take a leftie and go up the hill before turning left into Wahroonga Avenue … now this is nice … and through to a left into Burns Road, past the Bush School down to the lights where Brian Owles had a nasty argument with a traffic pole, and a rightie into Eastern and back to Turramurra Station.
- 10.2k Run [elevation gain: 191m] The third course passes Wahroonga Avenue and goes another kilometre or so along Junction Road, down to a left turn into Coonanbarra Road, grinding up the hill before turning left into Burns and a very steep climb. Then there is a beautiful stretch down this magnificent and beautiful, tree lined avenue of outrageously decadent real estate to the lights again at Eastern, and back to Turramurra. This is about 10.2 kms and we run this course for the next 6 weeks.
- 12.0k Run [elevation gain: 218m] Life starts to get serious on the fourth course … 12.0km.
- 14.0k Run [elevation gain: 251m] This brings us to about 12 weeks before the City to Surf, and we’re all getting a bit toey now … shall I enter or not this year?
- 15.1k Run [elevation gain: 272m] The final insult and bodily damage is inflicted in the final 6 weeks before the City to Surf, when we raise the bar another notch up to 15.1kms.
- 7.1k Walk This walk heads north through the carpark, past the retirement village and into Cherry Street. Keep heading north on Cherry Street. Cross Brentwood Avenue, Hastings Road, Bangalla Street and then turn left into Chilton Parade. Take the next right into Halcyon Avenue then turn left into Billyard Avenue. At the end of Billyard Avenue, turn right into Cleveland Street and at the end of Cleveland, turn left into Burns Road. Continue down Burns Road and turn right into Coonanbarra Parade. Cross Bareena Avenue then turn right into Lochville Street. At the end of Lochville Street do a zig-zag into Kintore Street and then it's right into Wahroonga Avenue and back onto Burns Road, turing left into Burns Road. Follow Burns Road to Eastern Road and the follow Eastern Road back to the carpark start/finish line.
- 5.8k Walk
- 3.6k Walk
- 2.4k Walk
Map of the run courses is further down the page...
About 2 kms down Bobbin Head Road, the course cuts through Nambucca Street before turning down Burns Road, over Lovers’ Jump Creek, then winding up the hill, ( not forgetting to disturb the sleeping Alsatian at the house on the corner opposite Clissold Street ), to the lights at Eastern Road.
The base course turns left here ( whereas the longer runs turn right ) and races down the Eastern Road hill, past the Eastern Road shops and up the hill to Turramurra Station. That’s the 6.5km course.
This is the 8.6km course, and we run this for 6 weeks.
For the next 6 weeks we pass Coonanbarra leaving Ku-ring-gai and entering Hornsby Shire and lurch over the Expressway, up the hill, round Waitara Public School into Myra Street, then left into Alexandra Parade alongside the railway, over the Expressway again, then left into Woonoona past the slowly dilapidating house that some looney has been cannibalising for yonks, round into Woniora back into the south end of Coonanbarra and right into Burns Road, up that damn hill and back as before.
Gruelling.
Oh well, I might as well put in the form ! I had better get into the next 6 weeks, the fifth course, at 14.0kms. Ugh ! Know the feeling at This time, we pass Waitara Public School, and turn right at Edgeworth David and leg it out along Palmerston Road towards Hornsby Hospital ( forethought and good planning by the course designers ), turning left down the steep hill at Northcote Road, then left across the mud heap into Sherbrook which brings us out again opposite the Bowling Club on Edgeworth David.
Then it’s a long haul back as before. 6 weeks to go !
This is the sixth course, just to prove sadistically that we can run more than the required 14 kms in the City to Surf. The dingbats who designed this course not only added another kilometre, but the rats put a bloody hill in it too … and this hill is just a shade off the vertical. You need crampons to get up this doozie ! This is Linda Street...
It’s soon over, and you can relax on the lesser inclination up Hunter Street, have a laugh at whatever time it says on the Water Clock, round into Edgeworth and back we go. Easy eh AT We like a flat course !
Well, 6 weeks of this and your ready for the City to Surf, the odd light ale, a lie down, a few cigars and a month in Tahiti.

During marathon Season - 1st April to 30 Sep
- 21.48k Run An extension of the 14.0k run course. And just a tad longer than the official half-marathon distance of 21.095k.
Directions courtesy of Phil South.
This run is the same course as the 14.0k run up to Sherbrook Road. Instead of turning left into Sherbook as you would on the 14.0k course, turn right. So, heading in a northerly direction through the roundabout and continue sweeping to the right along King Road and then turn left into Salisbury Road. Continue to the end of Salisbury Road where it meets Sherbrook Road (yes, you're on Sherbrook once again, no shortcutting!) and turn right. Continue along Sherbrook and head straight-ish as the road changes it's name to Royston Parade. Continue to the corner of Ku-ring-gai Chase Road and Royston Parade where the road changes it's name again to Belmont Parade. Continue straight until you see the railway bridge (Yirra Road), turn left and another left at traffic lights onto the Old Pacific Highway.
Follow the Old Pacific Highway back towards Hornsby. Veer right into Peats Ferry Road. Stay on Peats Ferry Road and take a short stretch on George Street and then left back into Edgeworth David Avenue and then rejoin the 15.0k course at the corner of Edgeworth David Avenue and Albert Street.
And follow 15.0k course to the finish.
